Expectations:

Of course, all school board policy and all rules of Gaston High School apply. However, Mrs. Nix’s rules are simple:

  1. Respect yourself, each other, and Mrs. Nix.

  2. Be where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there.

  3. Do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it.

Class Materials:

There is no textbook for this course; all material will be covered and given to you as either handouts and/or class notes. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to get missed handouts from the instructor and notes from a classmate.

Since there is no textbook for this course, you should have the following items for class:

  1. 3-ring binder

  2. Tabbed dividers

  3. Notebook paper

  4. Pen or pencil

  5. Highlighter

There will be periodic notebook checks during both grading periods.  It is the student’s responsibility to keep their notebook neat and up-to-date.

Attendance and Makeup Work:

It is found that students who attend school/class every day achieve higher grade averages than those students who miss school on a regular basis.  It is the responsibility of the student and ultimately the parent that the student is in class every day.

Makeup work will ONLY be accepted if an absence is excused by the front office.  The student will have three (3) school days to complete and turn in any work missed.  Late work will not be accepted.

Grading:

All assignments, tests, etc. will be a total of 100 points.  The student’s class average will be broken down into two categories:  assignments and tests.  Each category will contribute to 50% of the student’s grade for each grading period.  Every assignment will be graded.  There will be periodic notebook checks (random) and a large end-of-grading-period project.  Tests will be given at the end of each unit.
